Mission and Service

Mission and Service
In The United Church of Canada we have a vision of how we participate in God’s mission in the world. This United Vision involves ministry in our own United Churches and in work with partners across the country and around the globe. Our United Vision and our United work is funded by the Mission and Service Fund.

Boomer Appeal

The world needs less buying and more giving.
The world needs less concern with self and more consideration of others.
Young people need guidance and role models.

In Chuck Underwood's PBS Special, The Boomers, he appealed to Boomers to make a difference. Speaking directly to a room full of Boomers, those who changed the world in the 60's and 70's, he said:

You once had you passion and ideals.
Do you still?
You once had your sense of power and engagement.
Do you still?
You once fought for the little guy and bettering life for the masses instead of the privileged few.
Do you still?

As boomers take their turn at the top, most [of the country] think that the world is starved for integrity.
How much of you is left?

Boomers have the power to turn aside a destructive consumer culture.

To Do: Read the new United Church resource, Overturning the Tables ,as a starting point. Boomers will know what to do next!
